The Green Ladle had a couple of event cancellations, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and were left with over $7,000 worth of a food order. School was cancelled on March 13th, it was decided to see if there was a need in the community, specifically for the elderly, first responders and disabled veterans as a stay-at-home order was in place at the time. Needless to say, we grew from there!
Our senior students decided to donate their tips they had saved for two years in the amount of $1,300. Generally, this is used for a year-end dinner for the entire class. The business community learned of this and immediately we received donations to continue the program. We are currently serving 460 guests Monday-Friday, 2,300 meals per week! Cost per day is $1,300.
We wish to thank the following local businesses for their very generous monetary and food donations:
Modern Woodmen of American, Lewiston chapters - $7,000
Androscoggin Bank, Lewiston $4,000
DaVinci’s Italian Eatery - Food Supplies and use of Van
Hurricane’s Café & Deli - Food Supplies
Rolly’s Diner - Food Supplies
Tripp’s Farmhouse Café – Food Supplies
Chick-a-Dee Restaurant – Food Supplies
AND let’s not forget all those receiving the meals. So very many of you have contributed to this program. Family members have called to add on a loved one and to contribute. All of you have made it possible to continue as long as we have and for this we are so thankful.
