S/EL and Affective Needs

"All gifted children will experience some level of asynchronous development, when their cognitive abilities develop out of sync with other dimensions of their development, such as their physical, social, and emotional abilities." (Roberts, J. L., Inman, T. F., & Robins, J. H. (2018)

Because of this asynchronous development, some gifted students exhibit characteristics that impact their social/emotional growth. Social and Emotional Learning is important for all students, and TAG students are no exception. TAG students may exhibit characteristics including, but not limited to, underachievement, anxiety, perfectionism, stress, motivation, and self-esteem.
