Kreft: Identification

"Teachers who recognize and identify giftedness in the earliest grades are pioneers. Usually children are not formally identified as gifted by a school system until the third or fourth grade. This can be too late if the children's learning environments have not met their unique needs." -Teaching Gifted Children in Today's Preschool and Primary Classrooms

Due to limited assessment data, identification at Kreft will look different than the other buildings. Knowing characteristics of gifted learners and learning about your students' passions, curiosities, and abilities are key to early identification. There are tools you can use to get to know your students better, including (but not limited to) interviews, portfolios, dynamic assessment, and inviting parents to share about their child.
