Fifth Grade

Fifth graders had a great start to the year. They are currently working on their second STEAM challenge, re-creating a scene from a classic horror novel or movie (teacher selected). They have certain requirements for characters, walls, and including at least 1 simple machine, then they get extra points for other features they might want to include such as doors/windows, stairs/second story, fireplace, etc. They will also get bonus points if their scene is chosen (by other Soar students in other grades) as the most creative or artistic. They have also started their unit on "Mysterious Things." They have talked about enigmas and mysteries and they will soon be investigating sightings of UFO's to examine evidence and see if any of these supposed sightings are credible.  Logic, research, and quiz bowl practice are also part of their Soar day.
