Your nervous system may be experiencing high activation.
You may notice overwhelm, urgency, emotional flooding, panic, racing thoughts, intense anxiety, or difficulty slowing down.
When activation is high, the goal is often not understanding the problem immediately.
The goal is creating enough safety and regulation for the nervous system to begin slowing down.
Notice whether you can slow your pace rather than solve the problem.
Consider:
slowing your breathing
sitting down
reducing stimulation
lengthening your exhale
The nervous system often responds to slowing before it responds to reasoning.
Notice:
what you can see
what you can hear
what you can feel physically
what is happening right now
Grounding may help create distance between activation and reaction.
The body often holds activation through tension, restlessness, urgency, and hypervigilance.
Consider:
gentle movement
stretching
changing environments
body reset exercises
Sometimes the body needs support before the mind can settle.
High activation is often associated with:
safety
predictability
slowing down
support
reassurance
connection
regulation
Needs often become easier to recognize once activation begins to decrease.
