WHAT is expected of Online Students?
It takes a lot of self-motivation for students to direct their own learning in a virtual environment. While you will be using robust online texts and curricula there are some strategies that can help you succeed.
There are some expectations about:
-- how much time you spend on each class,
-- attending virtual seminars, and
-- contacting your teacher.
Going to School Online
What does it mean to go to school online? Like all schools, MyLCPS Online is made up of many parts, most of them accessible through the Internet. MyLCPS Online students use the internet, an online program called Edgenuity, Google Meet, and the Communication Hub to show up for classes, share ideas and information with teachers and other students, read, write, ask and answer questions, complete quizzes and tests, and do many other activities that are part of the school learning experience.
The Edgenuity and Pathblazer learning management systems are the core of the MyLCPS Online learning experience—this is where and how you'll come to school every day. To use Edgenuity, you need to be connected to the Internet. You also need a username and password. Students will be able to access Edgenuity and Pathblaver via their Clever account.
Student Expectations
Adhere to the Code of Conduct and Acceptable Use Policy while participating in Virtual School.
Be available, as directed by the teacher(s), on school days, to participate in online learning activities.
Participate each school day in every enrolled class.
Attend meetings at school, if required (by appointment, adhering to social distancing guidelines).
Seek help from the teacher, as needed.
Complete and submit all coursework on time.
Communicate with your teacher and peers in a respectful manner.
Ensure that you have access to online courses during school hours, and can complete assignments after school hours.
Acknowledge that the school district has access to your schoolwork and comments posted within the online courses.

Parent Expectations

Provide your student with a safe and appropriate place to work while at home.
Ensure that your student has sufficient time in his/her schedule to work each day on the scheduled courses.
Become familiar with Edgenuity parent reports as well as progress reports, and ask your child to show you his/her coursework and progress.
Encourage your child to seek help from the teacher, as needed.
Ensure that all tests and work is completed by your child without the aid of others.
Be aware of all deadlines.
Communicate academic concerns with teachers as necessary.
District Expectations:
Students and parents can expect...
The school will develop and explain the Virtual School process and expectations so that students and parents can make informed decisions when choosing to participate in Virtual School.
Teachers will be available during scheduled hours (as communicated by the teacher) to provide academic assistance, when needed.
If the student has an active 504 Plan or IEP, the district will conduct an ARC/504 meeting to determine how services can be delivered virtually or if the IEP/504 will have to be amended.
When students select the option for virtual school, they may choose to come back to in-school classes at transition points (completion of the semester).
Students that choose virtual school may participate in in-person extracurricular programs/activities.
Students and parents fully acknowledge that success is largely dependent upon the work and effort put forth by the student. Students who fail to regularly participate or are not successful in Virtual School may have to attend in-person classes.
Enrollment in MyLCPS Online indicates I have read, understand, acknowledge, and agree to abide by all expectations and policies outlined here.
