TOPIC - WHERE DO I LIVE?
Kingfishers have been incredibly busy in their English lessons over the last few weeks. We read the charming story, "A Bee Who Spoke," and then researched lots of fascinating facts about bees, which built on the impressive knowledge the children already had. The children wrote some fantastic non-chronological reports about these amazing insects; we were so impressed with the quality and detail of their work – they truly are excellent writers!
This week, we've been reading "Claude in the City." This funny tale follows Claude the dog as he unintentionally foils a robber attempting to steal a priceless sculpture . The children thoroughly enjoyed the story and will soon be stepping into Claude's shoes to write their own diary entries from his perspective. We are sure they will produce even more fantastic writing!
In Maths, we've been working hard on our number skills, specifically focusing on counting to 100 using a gattegno chart and a hundred square. The children have been fantastic at identifying the various patterns that emerge as we cross the tens boundary, deepening their understanding of number relationships. We also took part in Maths London Week. During this week, we learnt about the life and achievements of Ada Lovelace and Albert Einstein. It was a wonderful way to connect our maths learning with history and amazing people!
Our Science lessons have been equally engaging! We've been exploring the fascinating world of trees, learning about the differences between evergreen and deciduous trees. The children enjoyed putting their new knowledge into practice by heading outdoors and identifying these different types of trees right here in our school grounds! We also had a close look at their leaves, comparing and contrasting their features. Additionally, we've been investigating the plant life cycle, understanding how plants grow and change. To get hands-on, each child even planted their own bean seeds – we're all eagerly watching for signs of growth!
Last week brought the highlight of our Sports Day! The children were absolutely amazing, showing incredible spirit by joining in with all the different events and truly enjoying the running races. It was wonderful to see their determination and teamwork in action. This week we took part in LEO Arts week and the children completed a daily art activity and they thoroughly enjoyed exploring their creative sides. They also had the opportunity to visit the school art exhibition which allowed them to show off their wonderful art work as well as the chance to see the art that has been taking place across the whole school. They really are a very talented class.
What a fantastic year of learning and fun we have had!
