YEAR 2

We were shocked to arrive back in Swan Class after the Easter Holidays, to discover a dragon egg in our classroom! We made some careful predictions about what might be inside and lucky for us, the egg hatched the following day to reveal a beautiful blue and purple baby dragon. With the dragon, came a letter explaining that our dragon disliked reading legends as they always ended badly for the dragons. Over the past two weeks, Swans have been on a mission to rewrite the ending of St George and the dragon. We began by reenacting the story before we then carefully considered our alternative endings. These have varied from George and the dragon becoming friends to the dragon eating George!

In Maths we have begun to explore time. We have been learning how to read an analogue clock as well as how to write this digitally. We are now beginning to practise using time to solve problems, such as finding beginning and end times as well as comparing duration of time.

This term is all about plants in Science, so there is plenty of growing to come! We have started by recalling our knowledge of the parts of plants and have created our own life cycles for sunflowers. We will soon be experimenting with the factors needed to grow plants and the impacts that these can have.

We are continuing to explore painting in Art, however this half term we are exploring the relationship between music and art. We will also be tying this to our Geography learning in which we are investigating contrasting localities, between Ashtead and Mugurameno - a village in Zambia.

Swan class have been busy rehearsing for our KS1 Big Sing in Cheam on the 1st of May. We look forward to seeing some familiar faces in the audience!
