YEAR 1

Welcome to another exciting edition of the Kingfisher Class newsletter and welcome back after the Easter break!

This month, the Kingfishers have been buzzing with activity (just like some busy bees!).

We've embarked on a fascinating journey with our new book, "The Bee Who Spoke"! The children are captivated by the story and eager to learn more about these incredible creatures. To showcase their newfound knowledge, the Kingfishers will be turning into bee experts and writing exciting non-chronological reports on bees. Get ready for some fascinating facts!

We've been doubling down on our maths skills by exploring the world of doubles! The class has been mastering the art of recognising and creating doubles, which is a fantastic foundation for future learning. To add a challenge, we've been tackling word problems that put our problem-solving skills to the test. The Kingfishers have been showing fantastic progress in thinking critically and finding solutions!

In Science we have been continuing to find out about animals. We have been sorting animals into different groups and making comparisions between them. We have also been looking at what the terms herbivore, omnivore and carnivore mean, and which animals fall into each category.

In Phonics, we've been revisiting all the sounds we've learned throughout the year. It's been a great way to solidify their knowledge and build confidence. We've also been encountering some "alien words" – silly-sounding words that help us practice sounding out unfamiliar combinations of letters. The Kingfishers are having a blast with this unique challenge!

This term in Topic, we're setting our sights on exploring our local area! We're excited to learn more about the places and people that make up our community.

We were lucky enough to have a visit from a beekeeper! The children got a fascinating glimpse into the world of bees with a real-life beehive demonstration. They even saw the inside of a hive (safely, of course!).

Don't forget:

Thank you for your continued support!
