Happy New Year to everyone! Refreshed and raring to go, we are straight back into our learning. In addition to a packed curriculum, this term we have much to look forward to: the postponed 'Why Don't You?' theatre performance (today!); Young Voices at the O2 on 20th January; our Reading Cafe on 22nd January; and, not forgetting, our Home Front workshop on Tuesday 28th January. This is on top of our many sports fixtures.
Our, somewhat, all encompassing (and thrilling!) History topic is World War 2. We are thoroughly enjoying the discussions and questions that are being thrown up. The children are so engaged, it's wonderful! Any family memorabilia relating to this period that the children would like to share would be most welcome. Our English text is 'Letters from the Lighthouse' by Emma Carroll, a riveting adventure story set in WW2. Pleasingly, it has summarily captured the children's interest. In Maths, we have just finished off measurement and are shortly moving on to percentages. We would appreciate you cultivating any opportunities to practise telling the time with the children, at home, over the next few weeks. Making electrical circuits and conducting 'fair' tests has been the focus of our Science, as we investigate electricity this half term. In particular, the children had great fun using an energy stick to test what does and doesn't conduct electricity. Our Art topic is 'Brave Colour' and we will be creating mini world light boxes over the next couple of weeks. PSHE revolves around achieving goals and Spanish around greetings and introducing ourselves to others. Finally, congratulations to our Year 6 team who have progressed to the final of the SATRO Primary Schools Problem-Solving Competition.
We wish you a restful weekend.
With best wishes,
Ms MacFarlane, Ms Clemson and Mrs Povey
