What a fantastic start to our Spring term! This half term we are learning all about British wildlife.
In English, Swan class have begun to explore the story and illustrations of The Fox and the Star by Coralie Bickford-Smith. We have been examining the contents and emotions throughout the book and have used this information to write and illustrate our own Kennings poems about foxes and stars.
In Maths we have continued our measurement learning, looking at mass and temperature. We are next going to be looking at pictograms and how to create and interpret these.
In Science, we have started our new unit of Animals including humans, and have had great fun over the last two weeks learning about baby animals and animal life cycles. In Art this half term, we are going to be exploring expressive painting, learning about famous artists such as Monet and Van Gogh. Swans were really excited to begin our History learning about the history of flight. They enjoyed recreating the Wright Brothers' first flight.
We were delighted to be visited by Henry and Harry the hedgehogs this week. Graham from St Francis' rescue centre brought Henry and Harry along to help further our learning about these interesting animals. We loved the pictures of the baby hoglets!
Swans are looking forward to our trip to the British Wildlife Centre next week - please check and dress for the weather as it is mainly outside!
Well done Swans for a fantastic start to 2025!
Mrs Packham
This year we are continuing our use of Numbots in Year 2. Please access this at least 3 times weekly to build up their fluency and consolidate their learning.
All children should be aiming to read for at least 10 minutes per day. Do record this in their reading diary as they are monitored.
Each week your child will bring home a printed list of words to practise spelling at home.
At this point in the year there will not be handwriting homework. In Year 2 we are beginning to join up our handwriting and writing in cursive. You may choose to help your child practise this at home.
