Happy New Year, we hope you have had a good start to 2025, the children have certainly begun the new term with very positive learning attitudes.
Our Maths unit is exploring fractions. The beginning of this topic includes, comparing, ordering and finding equivalent fractions. We will move on to using Improper Fractions and Mixed Numbers as well as adding and subtracting numbers with different denominators. The digital programme of Polypad gives the children access to a fraction wall to support thier learning.
Knowing Times Table Facts for this topic is essential. The children have agreed to keep progressing with their times table facts by using TTRS. Please encourage your child to keep practising their Times Tables at home.
Taking inspiration from our Science Topic of Earth and beyond, our English Writing books are Cosmic by Frank Cottrell Boyce and Katherine Johnson's Life Story.
Our Year 5 pupils are busily researching and are ready to write a Biography on Katherine Johnson.
To begin our Science topic, we compared the different sizes of planets and created a scaled model.
In History we are studying The Vikings and how the Raiders became Settlers in Britain.
Home learning for this topic is to build a Longship replica, using any medium. We are looking forward to displaying your ships in class - they can be created from card, clay or even cake.
As well as the Viking Ship Creation, Home Learning this term is found weekly on Century. Please note there are English and Maths tasks to complete.
One further notice for families - please join us at the meeting on Tuesday February 4th to share information about The Kingswood Residential, we look forward to seeing you then.
