Welcome back to the Spring term! Puffins have had an enjoyable start to 2025. This term our learning is History is focusing on the Ancient Egyptians and what they believed. On Wednesday 12th February Puffins will be taking part in an Egyptian workshop and we will need lots of volunteers. Please let me know if you are able to attend, especially during the morning sessions. The children will also be invited to dress up as an Ancient Egyptian for the day if they would like to.
Puffins are thoroughly enjoying reading Marcy and the Riddle of the Spinx by Joe Todd-Stanton in our English lessons, as well as other books in his Brownstone's Mythical Collection. In our Maths lessons we are learning about length and the children have enjoyed estimating and measuring in centimetres. Our new Science topic is Forces and Magnets. This week the children have enjoyed investigating the effect friction has on a moving object by measuring how far a plastic lid can travel on the table versus the carpet. This term the Science at Home Bag will be making its way home with a different Puffin each week. Please can you support your child to try out a fun Science activity at home and record it in the book. There is also a lab coat for them to wear so they can feel like a 'real' scientist!
This year Puffins are taking part in a penpal project organised by the American Community School in Cobham and they are writing to Year 3 Children at a school in Uxbridge. They were very excited to receive a reply to the letters they wrote last term. We have written back and are looking forward to receiving more letters in the post!
I hope you have a fantastic weekend.
Kind regards
Mrs Legg
