We have been learning......

English - Year 5: This week, we have created detailed character profiles of the new character we have just met in our book - The Explorer. We have also written a blog about his plane crash in role as The Explorer.

Year 6: We have continued to explore the book Can You See Me? The children have met the main character and have been introduced to the worries she has and the challenges she faces as she moves to secondary school.

Maths - Year 5: We have been looking at containers that hold liquid and working out the capacity of the container / how much liquid is in it. We have used millilitres and litres, converted between the two and then we learnt how to convert pints to millilitres.

Year 6: We have been working in groups to plan a music festival, thinking about the order of running and the timings for the artists to be able to carry out a sound check and perform their set.

Topic - Year 5 and 6 completed their second lesson of our new topic on Africa. We recapped and recalled knowledge from last week and then considered the causes and consequences of Britain's role in MAAFA. We thought carefully about how the slave trade affected the lives of so many people and had huge consequences for the people of Africa.

Science - Year 5 and 6 continued our unit of work on forces. We planned and carried out a fair test investigation into air resistance, using parachutes. We made parachutes and measured the time taken for the parachute to fall. We then used the results of our initial investigations to predict how we could improve our parachutes. We identified which variables we could change to keep the parachute in the air for longer and identified the forces that act on a parachute.

Computing - This week we continued our learning using CS First, where we learnt how to use storytelling in video game design. We did this while we were building an RPG style Quest Game.

Spanish - We continued to practise asking about the time an activity is carried out by using "What time do you...?" in Spanish. In the Culture part of this lesson, we continued to learn about Capuchin monkeys.

RE: This week we learned about Muslim prayer. We learnt about preparation for prayer and then the actual act of praying.

PSHE - Year 5 and 6 have both completed lessons about body image. Year 5 went on to find out about puberty in girls and year 6 learnt about how a baby is made. If you would like more information regarding PSHE this half term, please remember to refer to the information that was sent out at the end of last half term.
