We have been learning......

English - Year 5: We have planned and written a recipe (set of instructions) for how to make a rainforest meal using only ingredients and equipment that we could find in the Amazon Rainforest. We are now experts in how to cook tarantulas over a fire and the fact that the older a piranha fish is, the more it tastes like chicken when it is cooked!

Year 6: We have continued to explore the book Can You See Me? During production rehearsal times the children, in pairs, have been developing their own websites all about the rainforest.

Maths - Year 5: We have been revisiting Roman Numerals and working out how to write some complex dates using these. We have also been completing some revision lessons in preparation for some assessments we will be completing next week.

Topic - Year 5 and 6 completed their third lesson of our new topic on Africa. They studied the triangular slave trade: the movement of slaves between Africa, Europe and the West Indies/USA.

Computing - This week we completed our learning using CS First, where we learnt how to create a

Cave Surfing Game. The game had a side scrolling background (similar to the popular game Flappy Bird).

Spanish - We revised the vocabulary we have been learning in this module about our daily routine activities in Spanish. In the Culture part of this lesson, we learnt about Capuchin monkeys from Latin-America.

RE: This week we learned about the first pillar of Isam - Shahada and how important this is to Muslim people

PSHE - Year 5 and 6 have continued the Changing Me unit of our PSHE lessons. Year 5 have learnt about puberty in boys, the changes to the body and the male reproductive system.

Year 6 learnt about the development of a baby from conception to birth and then discussed different types of relationships. If you would like more information regarding PSHE this half term, please remember to refer to the information that was sent out at the end of last half term.

Art: We drew Acacia trees and other plants used by the Massai tribe and sketched various plants. We then made mood boards on our Chromebooks.

Outdoor PE focus 1 for this half-term - Cricket

Outdoor PE focus 2 for the term - Athletics / Tennis

Year 5 and 6 also had a session with the NSPCC which talked about all children having the right to speak out and stay safe. We discussed different scenarios and decided what was ‘okay’ and ‘not okay’. The children were also reminded about the service that Childline provides.

Year 6 took part in a transition workshop run by Kooth. They shared fantastic ideas of how to cope with the pressures of transitioning to secondary school. They also sign-posted the children to their free website which contains lots of excellent resources. Please click the following link to explore. Kooth.

For home learning this week, We would like you to continue learning the words to our KS2 production songs. You might want to try the sporting activity following our Sports Day as it is National Sport Week.
