Year 6: A Whirlwind of Learning!
The past two weeks have been incredibly busy and productive for Year 6!
Science: Our budding scientists have delved deep into the world of scientific symbols. We explored the importance of using these standardised symbols, not just for accuracy, but for safety too. We discovered how they transcend language barriers, ensuring clear communication in scientific contexts. It was fascinating to see how these seemingly small symbols play such a vital role in global scientific understanding.
Maths: Maths, we’ve been mastering the art of data representation with pie charts, learning how to accurately calculate and display proportions. We also tackled mean averages, and got our heads around the concepts of translation and reflection, moving and mirroring shapes with precision. It’s been a challenge, but the class have shown fantastic resilience and a real aptitude for problem-solving.
Writing: writing focus has been on persuasive techniques, and Year 6 have truly risen to the occasion. They’ve written compelling letters to the Mayor of Budmoth Point, passionately advocating for the preservation of the local pier. They worked diligently to incorporate persuasive features, including the subjunctive form and modal verbs, demonstrating a strong understanding of how language can be used to influence and convince. Their letters were filled with powerful arguments and a clear sense of civic responsibility. We are incredibly proud of their efforts and their dedication to making a real difference in their community.
World Book Day was a blast! Year 6 had a fantastic time sharing their love of reading. They visited younger classes and brought stories to life with their brilliant storytelling skills. We even joined hundreds of schools across the country for the 'Scholastic Live World Book Day Event Week - The Big Fat Draw Along', putting our creative talents to the test. It was a day filled with imagination, laughter, and a celebration of all things books! 📚🌟
You should spend at least 30-45 minutes completing the homework grid per week. We would prefer you to complete your home learning and submit it onto the Google Classroom. You may complete it on paper if required.
In total, you should spend between 1 hour and 1 hour and a half on your homework.
Spelling tests will be every Friday
Reading diaries will be checked every Monday
