YEAR 2
YEAR 2
Dear Parents and Carers,
We've had another productive fortnight in Year 2!
Writing:
We have immersed ourselves in the art of character descriptions, inspired by 'Katie and the Bathers' by James Mayhew. We focused on not only describing Katie's physical appearance, but also delving into her personality. We explored how to use descriptive language to reveal a her traits and feelings. We particularly worked on extending our sentences with conjunctions like "so," "yet," and "because" to create a more complex and nuanced description.
Maths:
We continued our exploration of money, focusing on adding different amounts of pounds and pence. We worked on problems involving tens and ones to reinforce our understanding of place value. We also practised solving word problems involving money, applying our addition skills to real-life scenarios.
Science:
We have been learning about life cycles, particularly the human life cycle. We compared the stages of a human life cycle to the life cycles of different animals.
Computing:
Our young programmers have been busy coding! This week, we worked on coding a cave car with a flashing light. We also practiced debugging our code, identifying and fixing errors to ensure our cave cars functioned correctly.
History:
We have embarked on a fascinating journey through the history of flight, starting with the pioneering work of the Wright brothers. We learned about their early experiments with gliders, and their persistence in overcoming the challenges of powered flight. We discussed their first successful flight and the impact of their invention on the world.
D.T.:
Over the coming weeks, we will be building a baby bear chair! This week, we started by investigating how to make strong paper structures. We experimented with different folding techniques, such as rolling, and explored how to join paper together.
We look forward to another exciting week of learning!
Sincerely,
The Year 2 Team
