We can hardly believe how quickly this term is flying by – we're nearly at the end of Year 5! It's been another incredibly busy and productive two weeks for our students, filled with exciting learning experiences across various subjects.
In English, we've been completely absorbed in Katherine Rundell's "The Explorer." The children have continued to delve into the gripping narrative, and their creativity truly shone through as they wrote fantastic newspaper articles reporting on the plane's mysterious disappearance. They particularly enjoyed the publishing process, using Canva to design and create some really professional-looking pieces.
In Maths, our focus has been on area and perimeter. The children have been busy calculating and problem-solving, and they especially loved using Polypad to construct and manipulate different shapes, making the abstract concepts much more tangible and fun.
Our Geography lessons have continued our fascinating journey into the world's deserts. The students have been exploring the unique characteristics of these harsh yet beautiful environments. In a particularly engaging activity, they recorded themselves pretending to be the desert, describing its features and highlighting all the amazing aspects of these incredible ecosystems.
In RE, we've been deepening our understanding of the commitments Christians make to their religion, fostering insightful discussions and reflections.
To top it all off, last week was incredibly exciting as we all enjoyed our school Careers Fair! It was a wonderful opportunity for the children to explore different professions and start thinking about their own futures.
We have also continued reading the book 'You Are Awesome' by Matthew Syed. This book is all about understanding that you can get better at anything if you keep trying and learn from your mistakes. It helps you believe in yourself and know that with effort, you truly are awesome and can achieve amazing things! The children have been setting goals: both big and small, and thinking about how we can reach these goals.
For homework this half term, we have asked the children to complete at least 3 pieces of homework for the homework grid. Well done to those children who have already shown us some amazing homework!
