Year 1
Year 1
Hello again, amazing Year 1 parents! We hope you've been enjoying this glorious weather as much as we have – it's certainly been an action-packed fortnight here at school, even with the heat!
Our Year 1 explorers have been out and about! Last week, we embarked on an exciting walking adventure to the Sutton Life Centre. The children had a fantastic time discovering the wonders of the library, exploring all the different sections and genres, and even learning the secret to checking out their very own books! If your child is eager to become a regular bookworm, you can easily join the library online by scanning the QR code on the leaflet we sent home. Then, simply pop into the library to pick up their brand-new card – happy reading!
We were incredibly lucky to have a dynamic drama workshop visit us, transforming the hall into the wilds of Africa! Our budding actors became intrepid explorers, mimicking various animals and trees as they went on thrilling jungle adventures. The laughter and imagination were absolutely infectious!
Our Literacy lessons have been buzzing with creativity! Last week, we put the finishing touches to our brilliant bike adverts – the designs were truly impressive! This week, we've embarked on a brand-new text, but we're keeping it a secret for now! It's been a slow reveal to build excitement, so you'll have to wait for the next newsletter to discover what literary adventure Year 1 is diving into! No spoilers allowed!
In Maths, we've started to conquer the world of time! Last week, we wrapped up our topic, and some of the children can now confidently tell o'clock and half-past times. Why not test their newfound skills at home? Chat with them about the roles of the minute and hour hands – it's a great way to reinforce their learning! This week, as part of Maths Week London, we celebrated two incredible mathematicians: Ada Lovelace and Albert Einstein. Our Year 1s are clearly following in their footsteps!
Our DT lessons have been deliciously hands-on! Last week, the children mastered the "bridge" and "claw" cutting techniques with fruit – quite the impressive knife skills for Year 1! This week, they became master chefs, selecting their favourite fruits and juices to create their very own smoothies. Get ready for some tasty treats in our next lesson!
In Science, we revisited the fascinating world of materials through a captivating story about animal homes. We then ventured outside, gathering natural materials which, alongside some man-made materials, helped them to create a waterproof shelter for a creature. The teamwork and collaboration that afternoon were phenomenal – we were so proud of their innovative designs!
It's been a truly fantastic fortnight filled with learning, laughter, and plenty of sunshine! We're already looking forward to more exciting adventures in the final weeks to come.
Thank you again for your continued support.
