Year 1
Year 1
Where does the time go? Once again, the last two weeks have flown by!
Last Thursday, we had a lovely time celebrating VE Day. The day started with a special assembly, and mixed in with our usual lessons, we had a few special activities plus a mini party at the end of the day!
In Literacy, we have been enjoying the story 'Tidy'. This story is about a badger named Pete who likes everything tidy and neat. His obsession is so bad that he ends up digging up all the trees in the forest and covering the ground with concrete to keep it tidy! Fortunately, he realizes this is a terrible mistake and puts everything back. The children identified the problems and solutions faced by Pete and have been planning out their versions with a story map and recording their sentences on Seesaw, ready to write books next week.
In maths, we have continued counting in multiples of 2, 5, and 10 with coins to work out amounts of money. We have also been looking at how to apply this to repeated addition equations.
This week, we had great fun in science, taking our learning outside to investigate leaves. We then drew, measured and described a leaf. We then looked at different tree types and learnt that deciduous trees loose their leaves in winter whilst evergreen trees stay green all year round.
We became expert insect artists in art this week and used charcoal and pastels to create observational drawings. A bit messy but fantastic results!
Thank you again for your continued support.
