NURSERY
NURSERY
We've had two absolutely fantastic weeks filled with fun and learning in Nursery!
We kicked off our adventures celebrating VE Day with a wonderful party right here in our playground! The children had so much fun waving their flags and showing off the fantastic hats they had decorated themselves. It was a great way to learn a little about a special day in history.
Following our celebrations, we delved into the delightful story of "The Enormous Turnip". The children have absolutely loved this tale! We've been busy retelling the story, acting out the different characters, and even coming up with our own silly versions with new helpers pulling on the giant turnip! Our creativity blossomed as we each painted our own unique turnip, and we've put them all together to create one incredible piece of artwork that's now brightening up our classroom.
This past week, we've been captivated by the rhyming fun of "Each Peach Pear Plum". We've had lots of giggles playing Eye Spy, and it's been brilliant to hear the children confidently using the stem sentence, "I spy with my little eye..." as they describe what they can see. Their observational skills are really developing!
Our focus over the past couple of weeks has also been on developing those important fine and gross motor skills. We've been busy practicing our scissor skills, carefully snipping and cutting different materials. Outside, the parachute has been a huge hit! We've been making waves, creating tents, and working together to lift it high, which is fantastic for their coordination and teamwork.
It's been such a joy to see the children so engaged and enthusiastic about all our activities. We can't wait for more fun and learning next week!
RECEPTION
What an incredible two weeks it's been in Reception! We've had so much to celebrate and so many exciting adventures.
Our school trip to Deen City Farm was absolutely fantastic! We loved getting up close with all the amazing animals. We even got to stroke a rooster and learned a hilarious rooster dance! Meeting and petting a fluffy bunny rabbit and a guinea pig was a real highlight before we moved on to feed the hungry sheep and goats. We even met a fabulous goat named Jet, who, like many of us, is five years old! We also spotted a beautiful horse, a very sleepy pig, and even some tiny rats. It was a day packed with fun, and our learners returned to school buzzing with excitement, producing some truly amazing writing about their experiences.
Back at school, we received a very special gift: caterpillars! We are all eagerly awaiting the arrival of our beautiful butterflies, which is incredibly exciting to watch unfold.
In Maths, our amazing mathematicians have been excelling with their composition knowledge. We have been super busy practicing making 10 and developing our skills to figure out how much more is needed to add to a number to reach 10. Using our fingers and double-sided counters, the children have been brilliant at showing off their understanding.
March 8th was a special day as we celebrated VE Day! Dressed in red, white, and blue, we had a fun-filled afternoon of snacks, ice poles, and squash, followed by a fantastic dance party.
In literacy, we've been captivated by traditional tales, focusing on the timeless story of The Three Little Pigs. We have been enthusiastically reading and acting out the story, bringing the characters to life. Our role-play area in Jet class has been completely transformed into The Three Little Pigs Construction Site! Complete with all the tools, hard hats, hi-vis jackets, and different materials, the children have been incredibly busy building and creating their own houses and buildings. We have been exploring the various materials the pigs used for their houses and learning all about their different properties. We investigated straw, sticks, and bricks to understand exactly why the brick house stood strong and kept the wolf out. Brick is definitely a strong material that's great for making sturdy houses!
Our creativity has been flowing in art, where we've been busy decorating and painting fantastic pig faces. We've also been crafting our very own beautiful lollipop stick houses for the pigs, complete with fun features like slides and rainbow gardens – talk about dream homes!
The recent warm weather has been wonderful, allowing us to enjoy lots of outdoor fun! We've been playing with bubbles, enjoying water play with special coloured water, and having a blast creating foamy and muddy "recipes." It has been a truly memorable two weeks!
Join us next time to find out more about our exciting adventures in play and learning as our "Once Upon a Time" theme continues to unfold!
