What another fantastic few weeks we have had in year 6!
Writing Our Year 6 pupils have been flexing their creative muscles by writing their own versions of a chapter ending. They’ve been particularly focused on using correct grammar techniques to make their writing more engaging for readers. The children have enjoyed collaborating with their peers, typing their work, and editing their pieces throughout the process.
Maths In maths, the children have been delving into the world of fractions. They’ve been comparing and ordering fractions, adding them together, and applying these skills to solve tricky word problems. Their mathematical understanding has grown significantly over this period.
Science Our young scientists have been exploring the fascinating world of microorganisms. They’ve learned what microorganisms are and can explain the characteristics of a cell. They’ve also investigated the Maya decline, exploring the various factors that contributed to their downfall, such as Spanish invasion, diseases, and drought.
Wider Opportunities Some of our Year 6 pupils had the incredible opportunity to visit the Excel Centre in London for the SCIENCE LIVE exhibition. There, they learned about future roles in science and gained valuable insights into the field. Additionally, the children enjoyed an engineering day at Thorpe Park, where they learned about how rides are built and even had the chance to experience a few for themselves.
Sporting Events Our Year 6 pupils have been actively involved in various sporting events, including borough sports, football tournaments, and netball tournaments. These activities have not only helped them stay physically fit but have also fostered teamwork, sportsmanship, and a love for competition.
