Dear Parents and Carers,
We have had another great few weeks in Year 5, and here is a snapshot of what we have been learning:
Writing
This week, the children have show amazing creativity by writing a poem all about Autumn. They worked had to use personification throughout the poem. Next week we are going to publish these poems, so we look forward to sharing the final results.
Maths
We have now finished our second Maths topic of the year! This week the children have moved onto their third topic: 'Multiplication and Division'. They have started this topic by identifying factors, multiples. common multiples, prime numbers and composite numbers! There is a lot to remember, but the children have worked hard to identify these different pieces of Mathematical Vocabulary.
Science
In Science, we’ve continued our topic on Mixtures and Separation. The last two weeks we have focused on dissolving. We looked at different substances we might find around the house, to see which of these would dissolve in water. We then carried out an investigation this week to see which factors affected how quickly something would dissolve. The children thought like Scientists to make sure they ran a fair test.
Swimming
The children in Year 5 started swimming this week - please make sure all children have everything they need. Swimming lessons will replace one PE lesson a week, so our PE day is now Tuesday for Onyx and Moonstone.
Thank you for the continued support with the children's home learning tasks - we love to see their creativity!
