Year Five have been working hard these past two weeks across the curriculum
In English, we have been completing a piece of persuasive writing. We were inspired by our book 'The Last Bear' where the bears on Bear Island have been affected by climate change. We wrote persuasive letters to the Prime Minister urging him to make changes in the UK to stop the effects of climate change.
As Mathematicians, we have finished our topic on fractions. We are incredibly impressed by the children as they are all able to add and subtract fractions with different denominators - something that lots of children can find quite tricky. We have also been multiplying fractions by integers. The children have discovered that having a really strong knowledge of their times tables has really helped them with this work so please continue to practise on times table rockstars as often as you can.
In Art, we have looked at the work of Kittie Jones and used her artwork as inspiration for our own.
In Science, we have looked closely at the cause of day and night as well as the four seasons. We created presentations to explain our understanding of these two concepts.
In History, we have continued our topic on the Ancient Greeks, trying to answer the question, 'What did the Ancient Greeks ever do for us?' We have researched different Greek philosophers to try and understand how their contributions influences our modern day thinking.
Reading Diaries
We would like to remind you that all children should be reading at least 5 times a week. Reading more together is incredibly beneficial and it will help the children in school, especially in their English lessons!
Chrome Books
Chrome books should be brought to school and charged, every day.
