Time in this course is split between classroom theory and developing tasks and appropriate activities for use in on-site work at a Lebanon-area licensed child care center, Pre-K Head Start or Kindergarten class. A tuberculin skin test is required to participate in the lab experience portion of this course. Students will create developmentally appropriate learning activities. Student will use these activities in their fieldwork experience. Students will also explore a variety of important issues related to maintaining a safe, healthy learning environment for young children. Students will learn CPR Techniques for infants and small children, other basic first-aid methods, nutritional planning, and proper meal preparation in the childcare setting. Seniors planning to enter preschool or elementary education in college need a one-year program only. This is an excellent course for students planning to become a teacher. While enrolled in this course, students are required to actively contribute in a daycare, preschool or Kindergarten setting as part of their field experience. During the last semester of this course, students have the opportunity to participate in an internship program.Students, who meet the specific requirements of the college, are eligible to receive 12 hours of articulation credit with Ozarks Technical Community College. Students are also eligible for dual credit through Missouri State University West Plain for CFD 260 for 4 credit hours .
