In Escondido Union School District, Rose Elementary set a redesign goal of creating multiage PODs anchored by caring adults that cultivate belonging, supportive peer relationships and positive school culture. The success metric they set for themselves was that after one year of implementing this new structure, 80% of students and staff feel a sense of connection through their PODs, measured by a survey.
At Bear Valley Elementary, the Design Team set a goal of assessment and reporting reflecting how learners grow on the Learner Profile. The success metric they are looking to achieve is that at the end of the first year of implementing the new school structures, all students will complete a digital portfolio demonstrating how they exemplify each Learner Profile outcome. These success metrics move beyond traditional metrics, such as attendance and test scores, which are still being measured and attended to by the schools and district, to focus on leading indicators of successful implementation of learner-centered school structures.
