Grade 6

January and February

For January and February, grade 4's have started playing ukuleles. After learning a few of the basics, we're now ready to try a few different strumming patterns and practice switching between multiple chords! Stay tuned to hear about which pieces we will be playing.

November and December

At the beginning of November, grade six students explored Remembrance Day songs and harmony by singing "Bells of Peace" in a round and with instruments. Also, we've explored reading more complex rhythms (sixteenth notes, quarter notes, quarter rests, eighth notes, half notes, whole notes). In November and moving into December, we will be preparing our Winter song for the concert. Mr. Neumann's class will sing "When the Holidays Come", and Mr. Bigg's class will sing "Reindeer Rap". There will be a link to the song under your child's class page on the music website.

October

In October, we've practiced the following rhythms: sixteenth note, quarter note, eighth note, half note, quarter note rest, and whole note. We practice saying, clapping, and playing the rhythms through games, written rhythms, and video play-alongs. We also played Boomwhackers along to Ghostbusters and Pirates of the Caribbean!

September

In September, we've gotten to know each other through "Find a Classmate Bingo" and "All About Me" where we described some goals and things we enjoy in music class. As well, we've done some body percussion and ensemble playing with Boomwhackers (dividing the class into 4 different groups and playing a whole piece) with the instruments in the picture below!
