Grade 3

January and February

For the new year, students have been very busy! We have explored singing, moving, and choosing instruments to play along with the story 'The Animal Boogie'. Also, students have talked about and listened to various Chinese instruments in preparation for Lunar New Year, and continue to work on learning notes and rhythms.

November and December

At the beginning of November, grade three students explored Remembrance Day songs by either singing "Sing for Peace" or "Bells of Peace" canon. Also, we've explored reading more complex rhythms (quarter notes, quarter rests, eighth notes, half notes, whole notes). In November and moving into December, we will be preparing our Winter song for the concert. Ms. Graaten's class will sing "Winter Fun" and Ms. Davis' class will sing "Here Comes the Snow". There will be a link to the song under your child's class page on the music website.

October

In October, we've practiced the following rhythms: quarter note (ta), eighth note (ti-ti), half note (ta-a), and quarter note rest (shh). We practice saying, clapping, and playing the rhythms through games, written rhythms, and video play-alongs. We also played Orff instruments (xylophones, etc.) and Boomwhackers with the song "What's that Creature?".

September

In September, we've gotten to know each other through "Find a Classmate Bingo" and "All About Me" where we described some goals and things we enjoy in music class. As well, we've done some body percussion and ensemble playing (dividing the class into 4 different groups and playing a whole percussion piece) with the instruments in the slide show below!
