How do I apply for Scholarships, Bursaries and Awards....and University!?
1. Universities! Check the websites of the post secondary institutions to which you intend to apply. Go to their financial aid or scholarships tabs and read about what they offer incoming students. You want to do this in September, because some schools have early deadlines!
2. Employers, Sports and Cultural Affiliations! Do your parent's or grandparent's employers offer scholarships? How about your sports team or cultural group? Many companies, unions, and sports organization offer awards. This is up to you to research. Start early!
3. School Based Meetings and Individual Research! Listen to the announcements and check the website regularly. Spend some time doing your own research on sites like https://99scholarships.ca/ and https://www.bcscholarships.ca/ and https://www.scholarshipscanada.com/ Check this out! http://nlsf.ca/web_documents/awards_for_high_school_students.pdf
4. BC Government! Some of these awards are automatic. Others require an application. https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/education-training/k-12/support/scholarships/provincial-scholarships You'll notice one called "District Authority" - that award will be offered in the NLSF pool starting in January 2024.
5. Nanaimo Ladysmith Schools Foundation! This is the large pool of awards open to grade 12 students in January 2025. Please visit their website for more information or see the NLSF folder on this website. Don't worry! Mrs. Fan will guide you through this process beginning in November.
Applications for university are completed online on the university website. There is a fee. Be ready to write and don't forget to record the student number you receive and passwords you create for each school. Go to the PSI section of this website for more information.
