SUMMER READING CLUB 2026
HGE enjoyed a presentation by the Okanagan Regional Library talking about the amazing things happening at the West Kelowna Public Library and the Westside Learning Lab this summer!
The Summer Reading Club is a free program where students can track reading over the summer towards earning a medal, entering prize draws and enjoying fun shows. There's more than one way to participate. Whether your child loves bedtime stories, audiobooks, outdoor adventures, creative projects or reading late into the evening with a flashlight, there's a Summer Reading Club adventure waiting for them!
Visit the West Kelowna Library beginning June 15 to pick up a Summer Reading Club package or register online at : ORL Summer Reading Club
KINDERGARTEN OUTDOOR PLAY DAY!
The kindergarten students in Ms. Kerr's and Mrs. Pendergast's classes enjoyed a wonderful morning of outdoor play and exploration. Students rotated through a variety of fun and engaging activity stations designed to encourage creativity, cooperation, movement, and problem-solving. The outdoor setting provided a perfect opportunity for students to learn through play while enjoying the fresh air and beautiful weather.
The morning was filled with laughter, excitement, and plenty of smiles as students explored, created, and connected with their classmates. Thank you to everyone who helped make this special outdoor play day such a memorable experience for our kindergarten learners!
Sportball Okanagan Visits Our School
Our school was excited to welcome Sportball Okanagan for a fun-filled day of physical activity and skill development. Students from every grade had the opportunity to participate in a variety of sports stations designed to promote movement, teamwork, and confidence.
Throughout the day, students rotated through engaging activities that introduced and reinforced fundamental sports skills in a positive and inclusive environment. The stations encouraged participation, cooperation, and active learning while giving students the chance to try new challenges and build their physical literacy.
The energy and enthusiasm were evident across the school as students cheered each other on, practiced new skills, and enjoyed being active together. It was wonderful to see every student involved and having fun while developing healthy habits and a love of sport.
A big thank you to the Sportball Okanagan instructors for providing such an engaging and memorable experience for our students!

Childminding @ PAC Meetings
A friendly reminder that childminding during PAC meetings is available only for students in Kindergarten to Grade 5. Childminding is offered through HGE PAC in the school gym and students are supervised by interested Grade 5 students. If you have a responsible intermediate interested in babysitting please email the PAC at hgeparents@gmail.com. Please know that the grade 4 or 5 student(s) who do take on this important role of "babysitters" during these meetings, do so knowing they are caring for younger children and having older middle students attend can make it challenging for them to lead with confidence. While we value connections with middle school students, we ask for your support in keeping childminding limited to children in grades K–5. If you have any questions, please contact the HGE PAC President, Virginia Nymeyer by emailing hgeparents@gmail.com. Thank you!
