In March of 2020, life at OLE changed forever. Met with the pandemic, reaching out into our community became more important than ever. Here are a few initiatives I lead to try to keep our community together even when we were apart.
Community Treasure hunt: Each week, my class would pick a theme and we would post pictures in our front windows. The students would then post a photo of their window on Padlet and challenge the students in our school to go for community walk and find the pictures around the community. We also reached out to our community association and were able to post on the community Facebook page to encourage all residents of Evergreen to get involved. Themes included everything from a "garden" and easter egg hunt (with a few golden eggs too).
Virtual School Bingo Night - Helping our families stay connected was important, so I decided to host a visrtual BINGO night for our families. We had almost 100 famlies attend the evening and it was one of the highlights of the pandemic for me! I was also able to help support another school as they hosted their own event too.
Virtual Talent Show - The annual OLE talent show has been an activity that our students look forward to each year, so we weren't going to let a pandemic stop us. Students applied online and then sent us videos of their talents. All videos were posted together online and a launch event happened in June of 2020. Being able to continue celbrating our students was a great way to end a very unsual year.
