Welcome to the Dance Department

The Fine Arts Dance curriculum offers a wide variety of dance courses and performance options for every ability and commitment level.  All instructors are certified in both dance and physical education, therefore, students will receive BOTH Fine Arts and PE credits for dance.  Our dance department has been recognized through Texas Dance Educators' Association as a "Division 1" rated program based on our students' learning methods and educators' teaching abilities.

When students complete their choice sheets, you will sign up for DANCE.  At the end of March, students who have selected DANCE, will receive a Google form from Mrs. Lyons to complete and choose the specific course(s) they are interested in taking.  May 1st, students will receive confirmation of their dance placement and which class(es) they are enrolled.

COURSES OFFERED:

General Dance Courses are offered as "Dance 1", "Dance 2", "Dance 3", & "Dance 4".  (no audition or experience is required)

"Dance Team Prep" is offered to prepare dancers to audition for a performance group (Legacies Dance Team and/or Vision Dance Co.) held in December.  At semester break, students could transfer into corresponding training classes based on the audition results. (Int-Adv experience and training needed)

"Dance Composition" is a course for dancers who hope to pursue a career in teaching dance.  They assist in Dance 1-4 courses while learning teaching methods and completing choreography projects. (teacher approval required)

"Vision Dance Company" are the dancers who perform in the Viper Band Marching Show each fall.  They take the place of a traditional color guard & are the 2022 & 2023 UIL 6A State Marching Band Gold Medalist & the 2019 BOA Grand National Champions. They perform with the marching band at all Vandegrift football games, various community performances, compete at marching band competitions, and present a yearly dance concert in the spring, "Visionary".  This is a varsity dance & performance company, and auditions are required for membership.  For more information about Vision Dance Company please visit www.vhsband.com 

"Legacies Dance Team" is the Varsity Dance Team of Vandegrift High School.  They perform at all Vandegrift football games, several basketball games, various community performances, compete at dance team competitions, and present a yearly spring show, Vanguard, in late spring.  This is a varsity dance & performance team, and auditions are required for membership.  For more information about the Legacies and to register for Legacies events please visit www.vhslegacies.org
