Fine Arts Dance Offerings

Dance 1:

This is an introductory dance class of the following genres – ballet, jazz, hip hop, modern/lyrical, performance, and choreography. In each unit, the students learn history, influence on/impact of pop culture, technique, terminology, movement. We have unit tests & skills test with each unit as well. Skills test are graded for effort, memory, technique & performance. Dance classes perform in the spring show, Vanguard, on campus in April.

*there is a wide range of level/ability in this class. We tailor/modify technique combinations & dance combinations to accommodate every level of dancer in the class.

Dance 2, 3, 4:

Builds upon Dance 1. This course is unique as it teaches the building blocks of composition, explores dance composition/choreography, world dance, hip hop, production & performance. Dance classes perform in the spring show, Vanguard, on campus in April.

IB Dance:

IB is offered as both SL and HL courses. IB is a holistic educational program with 6 areas of study. IB Dance falls in the choice of 6 IB electives within the IB DP Program. IB Dance consists of world dance movement and analysis, Solo composition, European Studies, Dance Investigation/composition/performance, and written analysis of dance.

Dance Team Prep:

This class is an intermediate-advanced class for the dancer who wishes to audition for Vision Dance Company or The Legacies Dance Team. The sole purpose of this class is to build technique & skill and fully prepare for the December Auditions. Styles include: Jazz, Hip Hop, Lyrical/contemporary, & High Kick. Dance classes perform in the spring show, Vanguard, on campus in April.

Vision Dance Company:

This class consists of 9^th-12^th graders who dance & provide the visual element in the Viper Band’s Marching Show. They travel, perform & compete with the Viper Marching Band from August-November. There is a fun spring trip for the Band & Vision students each spring. In the spring, Vision works on technique, performs in their own Spring Concert & dances in the Dance Dept./Legacies Spring Show on campus in late spring. The dance season for Vision is late July - May.

Music & Dance Camp takes place in late May, and Summer Band begins in late July. Both of these intensives are mandatory.

Legacies Dance Team:

This team consists of 10^th-12^th graders who dance & perform year round at all football game ½ time, several basketball game ½ time, compete at dance team competitions, & present a yearly spring show in April. In past years, the Legacies have been invited to perform in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in NYC, the McDonalds Thanksgiving Day Parade in Chicago, and at the Texas State Capital for Fine Arts Education Day. They have opened for the Radio City Music Hall Rockettes in Bass Concert Hall, and performed alongside the Viper Band and Vision Dance Co. & Viper Choir at Pearl Harbor in Oahu, Hawaii. The dance season on this team is late July-early June.
