In order to be eligible to graduation, students must meet the following academic requirements:
Earn 26 state credits in designated content areas
Earn at least 1 Endorsement
Complete 5 EOC/STAAR Exams (English 1, English 2, Algebra 1, Biology, US History)
Complete the state speech requirement (completed through English IV)

In accordance with Texas Education Code (TEC), §28.0256 (more details here), each student must do one of the following in order to graduate:
STEP ONE:
Complete and submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
Complete and submit a Texas Application for State Financial Aid (TASFA)
STEP TWO:
Submit documentation to VHS Counseling via link provided in the Senior Google Clasrroom.
In accordance with updated Texas high school graduation requirements (more details below), each student must do one of the following in order to graduate:

Complete a signed opt-out form

Beginning with students enrolled during the 2026–2027 school year, Texas has added a new graduation requirement related to the My Texas Future Direct Admissions Program. Before graduating, students must make a choice regarding participation in Direct Admissions. Students may either:
Create a My Texas Future profile and choose to participate in Direct Admissions, which includes allowing the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) to share necessary student data and education records with participating Texas colleges and universities; OR
Opt out of participation by having a parent/guardian complete and sign the required opt-out form and submitting it to the student's school counselor.
My Texas Future is a free online platform that helps Texas students explore college opportunities. Through the Direct Admissions Program, students can see participating Texas colleges and universities where they may qualify for admission based on their academic information.
Students who participate will:
Create a My Texas Future account and choose to participate in Direct Admissions.
Enter academic information, such as:
Unweighted GPA on a 4.0 scale
Class rank
SAT and/or ACT scores
Graduation plan
View potential college matches based on admission criteria provided by participating Texas institutions.
We encourage parents/guardians to talk with their student and decide which option is best for their family:
Option 1: Participate
Your student will create a My Texas Future profile and elect to participate in Direct Admissions.
Option 2: Opt Out
If your family chooses not to participate, a parent/guardian must complete and sign the opt-out form and return it to the student's school counselor.
Students must complete one of these two options to satisfy the new graduation requirement.
Direct Admissions is not a college application. Students must still apply to the college or university and submit all required application materials.
Receiving a Direct Admissions match does not guarantee admission to a specific major or academic program. Additional requirements may apply.
Students may update their academic information to receive the most accurate results.
More than 30 Texas colleges and universities currently participate in the My Texas Future Direct Admissions Program.

In accordance with TEC §28.0023 and TAC §74.38, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) instruction must be provided to each student at least once before graduation from high school.
Many students will receive this instruction during Biology class. Make up opportunities will be offered to students that have not yet completed this requirement. Details around these opportunities will be shared with Seniors and posted in the Senior Google Classroom.
In accordance with Texas Administrative Code (TAC) §74.39, students must be instructed on proper interactions with Peace Officers.
Many students will receive this instruction during their social studies class. Make up opportunities will be offered to students that have not yet completed this requirement. Details around these opportunities will be shared with Seniors and posted in the Senior Google Classroom.
