School Day SAT

Leander ISD is pleased to offer the SAT during the school day on March 2nd to expand access and opportunity, enhance college and career readiness and provide opportunities for students to meet TSI and gain access to scholarships.

TSI

Texas law requires all entering students who wish to enroll in a Texas public higher education institution to meet college readiness standards in reading, writing, and math. Students who do not meet the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) standards upon graduation will be required to pass developmental courses at the college they are attending in order to start college-level coursework. Developmental courses are costly and do not count toward graduation or degree requirements. Students may meet TSI by earning a qualifying score on the SAT.

Test Blind Test Optional

Leander ISD’s research found that many colleges and universities have implemented test blind test optional exams for current seniors but this does not necessarily apply to our current juniors. Universities are assessing their admissions practices and the use of college entrance exams for future graduating classes.

College Assured Admission

SAT/ACT is still used in some higher education institutions for assured admissions.

This allows students who meet criteria on college entrance exams to be automatically admitted even if outside the to ten percent. Assured Admissions Criteria

Access and Opportunity

Though some higher education institutions have moved to a test blind or test optional admissions, students still benefit from taking the SAT. Many colleges and universities provide scholarships based on SAT scores. Students may also gain access to programs based on SAT scores and other measures.

Equity

SAT School Day gives all students the opportunity to take a college entrance exam in the comfort of their home campus for free. By administering the assessment on a school day, campuses increase access and reduce barriers for many students who may not be able to test on a Saturday (i.e., working students, students without transportations, etc.) This allows students who may not have taken the SAT otherwise to expand the number of postsecondary options available to them.
