Science: My scientists will work through the engineering design process this week as we strive to solve a problem involving magnetism.
Social Studies: This week we will work on creating visuals that represent the culture of C.C. Mason.
February 23-27
Math: My mathematicians will explore polygons this week in class! This includes triangles, quadrilaterals, pentagons, hexagons, and octogons.
Writing: My writers will continue to produce poems- specifically color poems and some rhyming poetry.
Reading: My readers will continue to explore poems (and the elements of poetry) in class this week.
Science: We will continue to investigate magnetic forces this week in science.
Social Studies: Our focus this week is on the impact of artists within a culture.
February 16-20
Math: We will review multiplication and division skills prior to taking our Unit 5 assessment over these skills.
Writing: We are beginning our poetry unit! This week we will focus on elements of poetry, as well as haiku and cinquain poetry.

Math: This week we will learn about measuring weight and mass. We will learn about units of measuring mass like grams and kilograms. We will also learn about fractions at the end of the week.
Writing: Students are going to get to write autobiographies this week in writing!
Reading: My third graders will continue reading biographies in class. We will focus on contributions to society.
Science: Our class will learn how animals survive in various environments this week in class.
Social Studies: We will review personal economics in class and review key vocabulary associated with earning and spending.
November 17-21
Math: Students will learn to tell time on an analog and a digital clock this week. We will learn to tell hours and minutes.
Writing: This week we will compose texts that focus on gratitude. As we write, we will focus on capitalization, punctuation, and correct grammar.
Reading: My third graders will be reading biographies in class. We will learn how to identify hardships and accomplishments.
Science: Animal groups are the focus in class this week. We will identify environments that are suitable for particular animals.
Social Studies: Earning and spending within the community is our learning target in class this week.
November 10-14
Math: This week we will wind down adding and subtracting three digit numbers (as well as rounding to the nearest tens and hundreds). We will take an assessment on these skills at the end of the week.
Writing: My writers will finish, revise, and publish their altered fairy tales this week.
Reading: Folktales will be the focus of our lessons this week. We will continue to identify plot elements and we will identify the theme of our tales as well.
Science: We will learn about food chains in class this week, and how they impact various environments.
Social Studies: Our class will be thinking about personal finance this week in class. We will discuss earning and spending.
November 3-7
Math: Our focus this week is subtraction. Specifically, we will work on subtraction with regrouping.
Writing: This week students will work on composing altered fairy tales. We will focus on transition words and sensory language as we write.
Reading: In class, we will read altered fairy tales and focus on plot elements such as exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and solution.
Science: Students will get to compare our environment to a forest environment next week in class.
Social Studies: We will be reading biographies about inventors who have made positive impacts on communities this week.
October 27-31
Math: This week we will round three digit numbers to the nearest tens and hundreds place.
Writing: Our focus this week will be writing about the literary elements of fictional stories- specifically the setting and character traits.
Reading: Our class will be reading fables this week and we will be focusing on the moral of the story along with the theme.
Science: Weather is our focus this week- both tracking weather and using our math skills to find the difference between temperature.
Social Studies: We will continue to investigate entrepreneurs in history.

Math: Our class will be working on adding and subtracting three digit numbers this week.
