Welcome back to school! I hope you had a fantastic summer break, and now you are ready to begin a whole new year of learning. Third grade is an exciting year, and I hope you enjoy being in third grade as much as I enjoy teaching third grade!
As a learner in Mrs. Masi’s class, there is much to look forward to. You can expect to become a real scientist this year as we learn to look at the world “through scientists’ eyes.” Everyone will become a better reader as we learn to make connections and visualize when we read. The mathematicians in my class will soon learn to multiply, divide, and solve story problems. In social studies, we will learn about communities and citizenship as we build our own classroom community. Look out John Steinbeck, because Mrs. Masi’s class will be learning all kinds of new writing traits this year in class, as well as the cursive alphabet. Indeed, it will be a year full of interesting ideas and concepts!
On a personal note about your teacher... this will be my 25th year to teach third grade at C.C. Mason Elementary School- go Mustangs! With the help of a very supportive family (Mom, Dad, brother Brent, and husband Richard), I graduated from the University of Texas- Hook ‘em Horns! Richard and I have a 20 year old son named David Calvin. He is thriving at Stephen F. Austin University (Axe ‘em Jacks!) and is working toward a degree in History. He has hopes of becoming a history teacher some day, so obviously I am a VERY proud mama. My daughter, Bren Lucile, is a Sophomore at Texas A&M University (Gig ‘em, Aggies!). She has plans of becoming a “hot shot” doctor (her words- not mine). Bren loves to blast Taylor Swift music (just like her mama) as she studies her medical terminology. Bren gives me every reason to be a VERY proud mama. My “baby” is Jeanne Catherine (GiGi), and she is a sophomore in high school this year! She has a disease called Spinal Muscular Atrophy. What she lacks in physical abilities, she makes up for in personality and tech skills. She frequently patrols our family “farm” in her power wheelchair with Tillie, Hemsworth and Magpie- our Australian Shepherds. Having a daughter who faces adversity on a daily basis with determination, perseverance, and a smile on her face makes me a VERY proud mama!
I am learning to navigate life as a mom of older kids, so getting to hang out with third graders all day is quite a thrill. I get to be “Mama Hen” to a whole new group of students this year. I can’t wait to help them grow!
Building a relationship with the students and parents in my class is a top priority for me. The education of the students who enter my classroom is of utmost importance. On that note, if you ever need to speak to me about classroom events, activities, or anything that affects your child, feel free to contact me. Email is usually the best way to reach me. My address is vanessa.masiakowski@leanderisd.org. I truly look forward to working with both students and parents this year. I hope that the 2025/2026 school year will be an outstanding year for us all!
