How do I make a transportation change for my child?
Please send a note to school or call the office by 1:40.
What happens if my child is sitting next to someone they do not prefer?
Mrs. Masi does a new seating chart every month. This allows your child to work with different people and develop new relationships. It is important for your child to learn how to work with and next to new people. Conflict resolution is a life skill. However, if your child is having frequent conflicts with a child they sit next to, please email me to set up a conference. We will discuss the situation.
How can I check my child's behavior?
Students will be able to tell you how many times they had to "mark their desk." This is how many times they needed to be reminded to get on task.
Is there a snack time?
Yes. We have a snack in the morning. Students need to bring their own snack. Extra snacks are not always available. Feel free to send in donations for snacks if you are able.
How long do students sit at their desks?
Students move frequently throughout the day. We do some work at our desks, but we also read on the floor, do science activities on the floor, we sing, dance, and move throughout the day, and we have built in breaks all through the day. Eight and nine year olds are not built for sitting all day, so we don't. There is a lot of movement and change of scenery.
What is the system on homework?
Homework is passed out on Fridays and is due the following Friday. There are weeks that we will not have homework- we don't give homework if the Friday is before a break. If there is no school on a Friday, we will send the homework home on Thursday. If homework is lost, a digital copy is available on my website.
How will I know how my child is doing in class?
Graded work will come home in Wednesday Folders weekly. Check to see how they are doing on assignments each week. We also have notebooks for each unit of study. These will come home with a reflection page. Your child can explain what each page is about and the importance of what we learn. Report cards will come home every 9 weeks. Third grade has a skills based report card- we do not have numerical grades.
