DID YOU RECEIVE A SCHOLARSHIP OFFER?
DISCLAIMER:
The following list of resources is not all-inclusive nor is it an endorsement by Leander ISD or Leander HS. There are many scholarships that we do not list simply because we do not have the capacity to list them all and we may not be aware of all the opportunities available. To expand your scholarship search, it's best to start with one of the following databases.
BEWARE OF SCHOLARSHIP SCAMS!
You should NOT have to give your full social security number, a credit card number, or a deposit for any scholarship! The ONLY time you might have to pay a fee is for fine arts scholarships where an audition is involved as someone has to judge. These fees should be minimal. Some scholarships for universities may required the last 4 digits of your social to match with your application - when in doubt - ASK!
Federal Trade Commission: Consumer Information - Avoiding Scholarship Scams
You will not be able to accept any scholarship at any university without having a current FAFSA on file
FAFSA opens October 1st annually
FAFSA is the absolute first place to start for figuring out your EFC, Pell Grant status, and what types of free money you could receive from the government as well as what government loans are available for you to take out before having to find private loans.
You will need to complete the FAFSA every year you're enrolled in higher education
Start your scholarship search is with the institution to which you are applying for admission. Each institution runs their financial aid and scholarship applications differently so it's always best to ask questions of the Financial Aid Office at the prospective school. Remember that colleges and universities award the most scholarships!
Some institutions will require you to apply first before getting access to their application portals. Again, each institution is different so you'll want to read over the Financial Aid website of each institution you're applying to see their specific process.
