FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions:
I’ve heard that if my child is involved in a sport outside of school and participates so many hours a week they can be exempt from PE from school. What are the details?
Yes this is true, all students have the option of applying for Off Campus PE at the end of the prior school year. No applications are accepted after the last day of school in the year prior to applying.
You can find more information by clicking on the Off Campus PE.
What if my child signs up for a Pre-AP class and we realize he/she is in way above their head? Can we get out of the class?
Yes, your child can drop the class, but we won’t make the change until the three week mark.
Here’s our procedure for changing any class at HMS:
The first week of any semester, there are no changes unless there is an extenuating circumstance like a girl in boys’ PE
Otherwise, students must completely fill out a drop/add course request form to their grade level counselor.
Please help! How do I find out what my child’s homework is, when tests are, and how I can get a report from the teachers on progress.
It is your child’s responsibility to know what their homework is, but we understand some students are still working on a system for remembering. Middle school is the BEST time to help your child figure out a system that works for them.
Some places the information may be available:
Teacher’s google calendar (on the teacher’s website)
EVERY teacher has a place on their whiteboard in their classroom where one to four weeks of information is kept.
Teacher’s google classroom (only student can access this)
Is your child keeping a written planner? Here’s a link to a free one!
Please contact your child’s teacher via email to find out how they are doing in class. If necessary, contact your child’s team leader to set up a team meeting where all four core teachers are present.
What are tutorials and when are they offered?
Most core teachers offer tutorials for the subjects they teach. Check with your student's teachers to obtain their current tutorial schedules.
