Senior Summit

Senior Summit will take place on Wednesday, October 10th while the underclassmen take the PSAT. This day will run conference-style, allowing seniors to choose sessions to attend that best meet their needs and interests.

Based on your preference, students will select the sessions that interest you most. PLEASE NOTE THAT IF YOU DO NOT SIGN UP FOR SESSIONS, I WILL PLAN THIS DAY FOR YOU AND PLACE YOU IN SESSIONS. EVERY STUDENT IS REQUIRED TO SIGN UP AND ATTEND SENIOR SUMMIT.

08:40 - 08:55 - Check in (each student will sign in and receive their schedule of sessions for the day)

SAT Opportunity for Seniors

Students had to register in advance for the SAT opportunity that is being held at LHS on October 10th during Senior Summit.

Cool Week Orientation

You got your Cool Week Application submitted in time----Now it is time to attend the mandatory COOL Week Orientation. Failure to attend will result in removal from the COOL Week program.

College Application - What step are you on?

During this session, seniors will have the opportunity to work (self-directed) on college applications and have counselors on-hand to answer your questions or just check over things to be sure you’re doing it right! This is your chance to get help on anything you need: ordering transcripts, sending test scores, search for scholarships, or just general application questions.

FAFSA - How to get started.

Planning to apply for financial aid by filing a FASFA? Let’s get started! In this session, you’ll create your FSA ID and get started on your FASFA Application. Remember this is something that every college (ACC, Trade School, or University requires).

College Essay Workshop

Still behind on college essays? Can’t hit submit on your application because the essay is too important? GHS English teachers will provide feedback and guidance about how to write a good college essay that tells the school what they need to know about you.

Texas Success Initiative (TSI) Assessment Opportunities

This is a mandatory session for any student not TSI complete & has not completed the PPA. Students will complete a Pre-Assessment Activity, which is a state-required prerequisite online module that explains the importance of TSI and formatting of the TSI Assessment. Students will also understand the process of registering to take a TSI Assessment that will be offered at GHS in November during the school day.

Career Exploration & Resume Writing Tips

Representatives from Goodwill Industries will be on hand to share insights into career exploration and resume writing. Learn how to make a solid, professional impression, whether it’s for college admissions, scholarships, honors program, internship, or job and build your personal brand.

Advance Placement & Austin Community College Study Session

Students enrolled in AP or ACC courses may use this 50-minute session to form study groups, prepare for tests, review course notes, or get caught up after some late nights of studying.

Adulting 101: Finances

Adulting 101: Learning to manage your personal finances can be a real struggle, even for many adults. Join representatives from Randolph Brooks Federal Credit Union and get tips and advice on how to manage your money and budget, as well as develop a general understanding of what all falls into “personal finances.”

Investment Opportunities

Investment Opportunities: Get real life expertise advise from investment professionals who will share with you how you can make the most of the money that you will earn.

Options Other Than University

ACC//Military//Trade Schools will showcase the hundreds of opportunities students have at each of these institutions and organizations. Representatives from the Army, Marines, National Guard, and Navy will be present to talk to you about military life, enlistment, basic training, etc. Come visit with recruiters from various military branches to learn more about your opportunities, requirements, and get answers to your questions.

Dance Lessons//Zumba

Yoga/Relaxation Techniques

Representatives from PURE Yoga will provide a yoga experience to help you foster concentration, determination, self control and patience. All skills that will help you live a happy healthy life.

Auto Basics (how to change a tire/check vehicle fluids)

Representatives from a local automotive shop will be on hand to provide you with hands on experiences of how to check fluids; check tire psi and condition, jump start a car, how to install a spare tire, as well as some other basic knowledge needed for anyone driving a car.
