GHS AP Office - Hours Owed

Please note the following:

Errors in attendance codes MUST be handled through ghsattendance@leanderisd.org and your teacher of record.
Notes from parents OR notes from doctors do NOT excuse hours owed
Turning in notes helps to prevent the Truancy Process but does not excuse hours, in most cases. There are limited scenarios that the State of Texas / TEA approves as an exemption to accruing hours.
Absences exempt from the 90% hours rule with proper documentation requirement:
- Required Court Appearances
- Activities related to obtaining United States citizenship or taking part in a United States naturalization oath ceremony (for the student)
- Juniors & Seniors ONLY: College Visits (two days per school year)
- Pursuing enlistment in a branch of the United States Armed Forces (17 years or older)
- Visit with a parent or guardian called to duty
- Visiting a driver's license office to obtain a driver's license or driver's permit (Enrolled in high school, 15 years or older, 1 day allowed per school year for permit, 1 day allowed per school year for license)
Reminder that notes are due to the attendance clerk within 48-hours of returning to school.

How do students make up hours?

At least half of the hours owed must be made up with LISD.
Students frequently make up hours by:
- Attending tutorials with a teacher before/after school
- Attending Saturday School
- Leander ISD Clothes Closet
- Volunteering at LISD Elementary fall/spring carnival/festivals
The other half can be made up outside of LISD with a certified non-profit organization.

How do students document hours made up?

Copies of hours sheets can be found in the AP office or can be printed here .
Completed hours sheets can be turned in to Ms. Holly in the AP Office.
TRIPLE check that your full name and your ID # are on your hour sheet.

Any other rules to know about?

Hours cannot be made up during the school day (8:15 AM - 3:35 PM)
Any participation in an event that is required by the organization cannot count towards hours (i.e. athlete competing in the game, required barn cleanings that are part of your requirement of barn space rental, performance in the fine art concert, etc.)
Outside of LISD hours MUST be with a 501(c)3 non-profit organization (i.e. religious organization, animal shelter, etc.)
The sponsor of the event must be the signature on your hours sheet.
