Attendance Codes and Absence

The screenshot above was taken from page 21 in the LISD High School Handbook regarding eligibility and absence.  Please note, that any absence coded as Counted Against Eligibility IS NOT WAIVED. Students owe these hours according to state law.

A common misconception is that parent notes or doctor notes will automatically waive those hours and the student will not need to make them up - THIS IS NOT TRUE. These absences still count and accrue towards Hours Owed (see section on what this is and how these can be cleared).

If a student has extenuating circumstances resulting in prolonged or persistent absence from school, please fill out an Attendance Appeal Form. A committee will review each case and determine whether all or some of a student's hours owed may be waived. We are asking at this time that any student impacted by a COVID-19 diagnosis or quarantine to please complete this form as well.

If errors are made in student attendance records, please reach out to ghsattendance@leanderisd.org immediately.

Hours Owed

When a student has missed more than 90% of the days a class is offered at Glenn High School, they begin to accrue Hours Owed. These are calculated on a 1:1 basis per class. So, a class that is 1.5 hours long will add 1.5 hours owed if it is missed. A full day of school will add 6 hours owed to the total.

Students may earn back these hours by completing either voluntary Community Service or by attending Academic Tutorials. Students are required to complete the Make Up Hours Tracking Form, then either email or print and turn in the documentation to the Assistant Principal's Office.

Hours Owed forms are processed as quickly as possible, but it may be up to two weeks before the change is reflected during high volume months. Hours Owed can have a direct impact on a student's ability to acquire a Verification of Enrollment, so it is critical that forms be turned in WELL IN ADVANCE of the need for a VoE.

Verification of Enrollment

A VoE, or Verification of Enrollment is REQUIRED for all students seeking to have a Texas Driver's License issued. Attendance plays a critical role in whether or not a VoE can be provided by the administration.

If a student has excessive absences and owes hours, we CANNOT issue a VoE until those hours are cleared.

Verifications of Enrollment are valid for 30 days from date of issue and require at least 24 hour notice to the AP office to produce.
