Thank you so much for reaching out to inform us about your student’s upcoming absences. Please note that absences for travel are considered unexcused per district policy. Upon return, students will work with their teachers to come up with a plan for making up missed assignments. Please understand that teachers will not provide work for your student prior to leaving. However, your student may continue to work on and submit assignments posted in Google Classroom or on their teacher’s website. There is always a risk when travelling outside of the country and trying to connect with our school programs. We will not be able to change permissions in Google. Grades will be recorded by what is already turned in and those assignments that are not completed will be graded as such.
In addition, students that do not attend 90% of the days a class is offered (excused or unexcused) will be required to make-up attendance hours. Students and/or parents will be notified of the hours a student owes and a plan will be developed with your student’s assistant principal on acceptable ways the student may make- up the hours owed.
For students taking high school credit courses:
We are required to follow the mandatory state attendance policy in order to award credit for high school credit courses. The policy is listed below:
Per Texas Education Code §25.092, to receive credit in a class, a student must attend at least 90 percent of the days the class is offered. A student who attends at least 75 percent but fewer than 90 percent of the days the class is offered may receive credit for the class if he or she completes a plan approved by the principal that allows the student to fulfill the instructional requirements for the class.
Any student who has been absent more than 8 times for a class in a semester is required to make-up hours in order to gain credit for the class. Students who are beyond the allowable number of absences will have their credit withheld until the hours are made up. High Schools will receive notifications of the absences and held credits and will work with students to make up those hours to release the credit.
