What is the UIL One Act Play?
The One Act Play (OAP) is part of the UIL (University Interscholastic League) competition series—a chance for middle school theatre students across Texas to show off their talent, teamwork, and storytelling skills.
CRMS will compete by performing a short play (40 minutes or less) in front of judges, along with other schools in our district. It’s an exciting, challenging, and unforgettable experience!
Who can audition?
Anyone at CRMS! Acting and tech crew auditions are open to all students, but please note: UIL rules limit each school’s team to only 20 total students (cast and crew combined), plus up to 4 alternates—so competition for spots is tough!
Some of the important UIL rules include:
The performance must be 40 minutes or less
Teams have just 7 minutes to set up the full stage
All set pieces must follow the official UIL unit set
Students must be passing all classes to participate
We only get one hour on the actual competition stage the day before we perform!
Participation Fee: $50
This helps cover costumes, props, tech supplies, tech week meals, and a production shirt for each team member. If cost is a concern, don’t worry—no student will be left out due to inability to pay.
OAP is a big commitment—but it’s also a BIG adventure. You’ll grow as a performer, make great friends, and be part of something truly special.
