AP Seminar is an interdisciplinary course that develops essential skills such as critical thinking, research, collaboration, and communication. As the first course in the AP Capstone™ program, AP Seminar empowers students to explore real-world issues through multiple perspectives, preparing them for college-level work and future careers.
This course is a good fit for students curious about the world and eager to tackle big questions with evidence-based solutions.
AP Seminar is structured around team projects, individual research, and presentations. The course is designed to engage students in collaborative learning, inquiry, and debate.
The AP Seminar is score is comprised of different tasks:
2 papers + 2 presentations + 1 EOC Exam = AP Seminar Score. Performance tasks done throughout the school year.
Throughout the course, students will:
Investigate Real-World Topics: Explore social, political, environmental, and ethical issues.
Work Collaboratively: Develop team-based solutions to complex problems.
Communicate Effectively: Create multimedia presentations and refine public speaking skills.
Conduct Independent Research: Analyze sources and craft evidence-based arguments.

Earning a score of 3 or higher can help students earn the AP Capstone Certificate™ or progress toward the AP Capstone Diploma.™
Open Enrollment: No prior AP experience is required! Any student with an interest in learning, collaboration, and research is encouraged to join.
Works with Other Programs: AP Seminar fits well with dual credit, Incubator, and other AP courses. It complements other coursework by building transferable skills.
When can a student start
AP Seminar?
Junior Year:
AP Seminar will count as one AP elective credit
Sophomore Year (starting 2026-27):
AP Seminar will be coupled with Advanced English II. Students will receive their English II credit and one AP elective credit. Students and parents should be aware that if a student levels down or drops this class, s/he will be placed in on-level English II.
