Social Skills Learning is recognized as a key ingredient for school and life success. To meet these specific needs, Leander ISD adopted the Second Step curriculum. The lessons are taught by the classroom teacher in grades K-5 as well as Early Learning Classrooms to students whose parents give their consent.

The developmentally appropriate lessons are divided into four units.

The overall goal of Social Skills Learning is to increase student instructional time by helping students stay on task and decreasing behaviors impacting learning.

Child Protection Unit  Lessons through Second Step

To meet the required State of Texas Health TEKS for the instruction to prevent child abuse, Leander ISD counselors will utilize lessons from the Second Step Child Protection Curriculum. These lessons will teach students three types of skills:  Personal Safety, Touching Safety and Assertiveness.  Parents/Guardians must give permission for their student(s) to participate in these lessons.  Please look for more information regarding consent form to participate in the Child Protection Unit Lessons taught by the counselor at a later date.
