Mr. Garcia has taught at Cedar Park High School since 2016, where he advises the Tracks yearbook, Wolfpack newspaper and Wolfcast broadcast programs.
Originally from Central Texas, Mr. Garcia earned his bachelor's degree in journalism, public relations and new media from Baylor University. Before entering education, he worked at KXXV-TV, the ABC affiliate in Waco, where he held roles in reporting and digital news production. His experience in a professional newsroom continues to shape his approach to teaching, emphasizing accuracy, creativity, collaboration and real-world deadlines.
Beyond the classroom, Mr, Garcia serves as Cedar Park High School's Career and Technical Education (CTE) Department Head and manages social media and digital content for Leander ISD's CTE programs.
At Cedar Park, Mr. Garcia coaches UIL Journalism, advises the Quill & Scroll journalism honor society and serves as a co-sponsor of Prom. He also participates in campus and district leadership committees focused on improving the student experience.
Mr. Garcia approaches student media as a working newsroom, giving students ownership of the stories they tell and the publications they produce. He believes journalism education helps students develop confidence, think critically, work collaboratively and discover how their voices and creativity can make a difference.
Outside of school, Mr. Garcia enjoys cooking, hosting a monthly dinner club with friends, exploring Austin's food scene and walking the trail around Town Lake. He is also involved in his church, Covenant Presbyterian.
