Grading Policy and Procedures
Grades will be based on the following:
Rehearsal procedures-every week students will receive a grade for their work in rehearsals. This includes always having their own music, folder, and a pencil; focusing on instruction, and participating fully in all activities. Failure to follow these guidelines will lower the 5 point grade, one point for any infraction. If a student misses 3 or more days during the week, they will not earn the five points, but they will be exempt from this grade. If a student can't participate fully (i.e. can’t stand, or can’t sing), the student will fill out a rehearsal reflection to receive the daily points.
Proficiencies – There will be at least one proficiency per quarter. It might be in a small group, or individually by making recordings. The purpose of the proficiency is to give students feedback on the development of their vocal skills.
Homework – Students may be given small homework assignments. Examples include memorizing parts or all of a song, completing a worksheet, or completing assignments on the Sight Reading Factory website.
Written quizzes and Tests – Students may be given a quiz or test over items covered in rehearsal.
Concerts – The performance is a synthesis of what has been studied in class. It is the equivalent of an exam each quarter.
