Choir is unlike other classes. In a math class if a student won't do their work, they are only hurting their own productivity. However in choir if a student refuses to do his/her work, it affects the entire choir. Because of this unique learning situation there are unacceptable behaviors which must be avoided.
Using a cell phone during rehearsal without director permission.
Refusing to stand when asked to do so by the director during rehearsal.
Refusing to sing when asked to do so by the director during rehearsal.
Refusing to participate fully (perform motions, use proper singing posture) when asked to do so by the director during rehearsal.
Disrupting the rehearsal by talking to other students while the director is instructing (the subject of the conversation is irrelevant)
Failure to bring your own music, folder, and pencil to class daily.
Skipping class.
Two performance absences - see attendance policy
Turning in forms - there are around 250 students in the choir program, and only one of me. It is nearly impossible to keep track of forms when many students neglect to turn them in. Therefore, when I distribute forms which need to be signed and handed back, students must return the form by the given deadline. Lunch and after school detentions will be assigned for late forms. Any student with a form 5 days past due will be sent to the main office for consequences.
Consequences
Each incident will be recorded in the online school discipline system.
Parent/guardian will be contacted after two incidents.
After three incidents, the student will be removed from daily rehearsals for the remainder of the quarter. The student will earn their daily grade with an alternative assignment. If a student misses a performance during this time, they will be allowed to make it up with a major research paper. Failure to complete the daily work, and/or the performance make up will result in a failing grade.
